My project topic was horse treatment in 1920 vs 2020. I was interested in this topic because I love horses. I began by researching America, the economy, the culture, and horses all in 1920 and then in 2020. I found out that the 1920's were revolutionary. Jazz became popular in the culture, women gained the right to vote, radios were created and broadcasted, and much more. But more in tune with my topic, I read about how horses were treated in 1920. They were often beaten and overworked. Their living conditions weren't good either. Something as simple as the stables were rarely cleaned and were poorly ventilated. However, in 2020 horses were treated much better. Horses weren't used all day long pulling carts anymore as we had cars. And horses weren't beaten nearly as much. They were taken care of properly and there are laws against animal abuse and laws against attacking somebody. This is major because while there were fines for beating a horse unnecessarily it still happened. And people who witnessed this happening were always scared of interfering as some of the horse drivers would attack them if they said something.
English: I wrote a short story. The short story features what a horses' life was like in 1920 until he eventually dies. However, he is then reincarnated again in 2020 and lives a modern life. I used vocabulary words and proper punctuation so I could meet the standards. Click here to read.
Social Studies: I wrote a news article in 1927. It details the background of working horses and how they have been used throughout the centuries. It also describes how working horses were treated. It then compares the automobile to the working horse and how it is more reliable. Later, it delves a little bit into what someone in 1927 might say about their future. Click here to read.
Art: I drew a Clydesdale horse to represent a working horse in 1920. I also drew a Bay horse to represent a racing horse in 2020. The two horses coordinate with the short story I wrote. I also added a racing track and cobblestone in the background so I could use that as representation of what the two horses living conditions are like.
